Advertise for sitters in multiple locations.
Conduct interviews with all qualified applicants.
Verify reliability with the sitter's most recent employers.
Check childcare references with at least 3 families the sitter has worked.
Perform a thorough background screening. Make sure to find a reputable background screening company that screens each applicants personal character history, address history, criminal and civil records, as well as credit history records.
Whether your needs are sporadic or on a regular basis, verify with your ed sitters that their schedule will work with your specific needs.
Compile a list of approved sitters and this list as your needs change.
Update this list on a regular basis as your sitter's schedules will change.
Arrange to have backup care available when your sitter is sick.
